Léon sees the light of day on 13 August 1896 in Brussels. He obtains his pilot's license at his own expense in England. On 22 August 1917, while on a mission, his Farman F40 encounters technical problems, leading to a crash near De Moeren, in the vicinity of Veurne. Both Léon and his co-pilot 1Sgt Maj Lucien Hallet are killed.
As with Paul Marechal, there are two gravestones for Léon at the Adinkerke cemetery, one of which likely is a cenotaph. However, no information is currently available to confirm in which grave Léon has actually been laid to rest.
