History
The soldiers buried in the Wijgmaal honours court mainly fall during the Battle of the Mill. This bloody confrontation takes place on the border between Rotselaar and Wijgmaal on the morning of 12 September 1914. The battle only lasts five hours, but nevertheless claims the lives of 300 Belgian soldiers. This second attack out of Antwerp does meet with limited success, but also pushes the Germans to launch their big assault on the Antwerp stronghold.
With the Veltem-Beisem military cemetery the Wijgmaal honours court is one of the last testimonials of this forgotten battle.
