History
During the final days of the Eighteen-Day Campaign countless retreating soldiers and refugees end up in Torhout, all fleeing the ruthless German advance. The town is the target of several bombings, and medical installations are filled to capacity.
Chaos is complete and units fall apart. Everyone realises that the end is imminent. Every day fallen soldiers are buried in simple graves in the local cemetery. After the war most of them are transferred to their former places of residence, but eleven casualties remain in Torhout.
